CENTRAL LAKE -- The Central Lake Public Schools community is mourning the loss of a teacher.

Carrie Brickner-Hauger died from injuries she suffered in a car crash in Kalkaska County Sunday.

School leaders say Brickner-Hauger was a popular elementary special education teacher.  She had been with the district for three years.

Due to a scheduled professional development day, students were not in school Monday, but counselors were on hand to help staff struggling with the news.  The district will have additional counseling support from Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District and other community resources when students return to class on Tuesday.

Brickner-Hauger, and her husband, have four children.  At this time funeral arrangements are still pending.
