Free Hikes every weekend at Sleeping Bear Dunes
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park Rangers are hosting free snow shoe hikes every weekend throughout January and February.
Anyone interested can stop by the Visitors Center in Empire for a quick overview, and you can even borrow a pair of snowshoes from the park free of charge. Park Rangers can give you some basic snowshoeing instructions, and they say it's not tough to learn. They add it's a great activity and a great way to see different parts of the national park land.
Rangers say if you can walk, then you can snowshoe. They say snowshoeing is a fun activity for people of all ages and all skill levels.
And it's free with your vehicle park pass, but if you need snowshoes you're encouraged to call ahead. For more information you can call Sleeping Bear Dunes at (231) 326-5134 or visit http://www.sleepingbeardunes.com/info/parkinfo_directions.php
The hikes are held every Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. The free hikes may last into March weather permitting.
