ANTRIM COUNTY -- A special event at Elk Rapids High School in Antrim County aims to help wounded soldiers.

The event was already scheduled before the incident on Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas. Saturday, visitors to ERHS had the chance to sit down and write a letter to a wounded service member.

Students are also trying to raise money and supplies for wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany. It's America's largest overseas military hospital. The Landstuhl Care Project provides comfort and care items for military servicemen and women who become sick or injured while deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Donated items go to service members at Landstuhl, but also to field hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq,  and VA facilities here in the U.S.
