Benefit for new start-up: "Andre's Place"
You may not think of a bus depot as a place to find great works of art - but that's exactly what happened in Traverse City.
The BATA Transit Center hosted a special art show on Sunday. Nine artists from northern Michigan had their paintings, drawings, and sculptures on display. Each of the artists has physical, mental, or emotional challenges, and the event is a benefit for "Andre's Place."
Andre's Place is a new program that's just beginning - but it's designed to serve adults just like the ones who are showing off their works of art. Proceeds from the benefit will support Andre's Place, and it's effort to apply for non-profit status, apply for grants, and and look for space for a new facility.
If you'd like to help, organizers are looking for donated space, donated art materials, cash donations, and help building a website. For details call Michelle St. Amant, at 231-631-2477.
