A work colleague found the family in their home barely breathing.
KINGSLEY -- It was a Kingsley High School staff member that found a family of four and their two dogs semi-conscious in their home early Monday morning.
One of the parents is a Kingsley High School teacher and when he didn't show up for work one of his colleagues went down to his house to see what the problem was.
"He came down to check on them, found the house locked up, the cars home. he decided he couldn't raise anybody so he kicked the door in, found the four occupants semi-conscious," says Chief Sedlacek.
Chief Sedlacek says once inside, the school staff member found the two children and their parents in serious condition and called for help.
"When he came inside were they in bed sleeping?" asks 7&4 News.
"Sounded like one of them the mother was on the floor, the rest of them I believe were in bed....I would say that all four of them are serious," says Chief Sedlacek.
"They were semi-conscious?" asks 7&4 News.
"Semi-conscious, yeah," says Chief Sedlacek.
The fire chief says the four people were taken to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, fire investigators are looking into the cause of the carbon monoxide leak.
"We know that there was carbon monoxide involved...the gas company is check out there part. we shut off the gas so no one can inversely start the boiler up," says Chief Sedlacek.
Since carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas it's difficult to know if there is a leak in your home. Some of the common symptoms to look out for include: headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and chest pain.
