Suttons Bay resident reflects on Apollo 11
Captain Jerry Linenger is a Naval Academy graduate and a U.S. astronaut. He now has a home in Leelanau County.
But with a space mission aboard the Russian Space Station Mir, and thousands of earth orbits under his belt, Linenger is excited about the July 20th anniversary of the historic moon landing.
Linenger says the moon landing has become a standard to recognize accomplishment.
And he says the current mission at the International Space Station shows there's more to learn, discover, and explore in outer space.
Linenger is also selling photos of the Great Lakes that were taken during his mission in space. All proceeds go to support local organizations, like the YMCA building fund and Youth Sports programs. The photos are available at the Asher Gallery on East Front Street in Traverse City.
