Sheriff's deputies in Emmet County are searching for a man who stole more than $20 thousand from a local resort.
HARBOR SPRINGS -- "The guy got into the back office and held him up at gun point," says General Manager of Boyne Highlands, Brad Keen.
Surveillance video caught some of the robbery in action. Keen says it happened to one of his nightly book keepers around 2:30 Tuesday morning.
The suspect described as a white male, about 5'10" not only held the victim at gun point but also took more than twenty-one thousand dollars.
"At the end of it he duct taped our book keepers hands behind his back and gagged him put him in a bathroom and then left."
Keen says whoever the suspect is, he was familiar with the area's surroundings."
"Do you know who the suspect could be?" asks 7&4 News.
"No, although the person had quite a bit of knowledge about highlands and was able to avoid some cameras we have. We only got him on one camera in the office with the safes....so someone certainly knew what was going on around here," says Keen.
Keen says security guards were on duty but were at another side of the building when the robbery happened. It was only after the suspect left the building that the victim could call for help.
"The suspect used a small nickel plated hand gun and took a large amount of money from the cash boxes....I haven't seen this much in an armed robbery, the amount that was taken, this was a large amount," says Emmet County Sheriff, Pete Wallin.
A large sum of money according to the Emmet County Sheriff's Office but there were no injuries. As for now, Boyne Highlands plans to increase their security as police continue to search for the suspect.
"We are going to add security to get through the weekend until things quiet down...This is another reminder that you have to take a look at all procedures everyday to make sure you're running a tight ship," says Keen.
