Car slides into semi on highway

Driver tries to pass plow truck but doesn't see oncoming semi truck
ANTRIM COUNTY -- A downstate couple is in the hospital after colliding with a semi-truck in Antrim County. Witnesses say they saw the car passing a road commission plow truck when they noticed the semi headed straight for them in the other direction.
The accident happened just after 10:15 Friday morning on US 131 near South County Line Road south of Mancelona. Officials with the Antrim County Sheriff's office say the driver of the car, an 86 year old man from Grand Rapids was trying to pass the plow truck. The driver of a semi-truck headed in the other direction saw the car and tried to get over on the shoulder of the road. He said he had almost slowed to a stop when the car spun out of control and crashed into the front bumper of the semi truck.
The damage was extensive. Both the driver and an 84 year old female passenger were taken to Munson Medical Center. At last report the man was listed in critical condition. The woman was said to be in stable condition. The semi-truck driver was uninjured.
