Citizens Committee suggests the center find a new home
TRAVERSE CITY -- A local senior citizens center is hoping to raise enough money to build a new facility where they've been located for forty years. But now a citizens group is recommending the center move to a whole new location.
The Traverse City Senior Center is located on on East Front Street, right along Grand Traverse Bay. So far they've raised about $100,000 dollars towards their goal of building a four million dollar facility at the site. But now a citizens advisory group appointed by the Traverse City Commission, is suggesting that the senior center be moved to a whole new location.
The citizens group says the property is prime real estate for the city. And members say the seniors may be better served at a new location. The citizens committee will formally present the recommendation - along with several others - to the city commission next month.
Any decision to move the senior center would require a public vote because the center is located at city park property.
The Citizens Group (COFAC) has hundreds of pages of documents regarding a number of different issues posted on the city's website: http://www.ci.traverse-city.mi.us/COFAC/
