With the New Years Eve holiday just around the corner, an annual campaign is taking the time to remind drivers to be responsible. The Mothers Against Drunk Driving Red Ribbon Campaign kicked off at Kurtz Car Stereo in Traverse City. This year's program included ignition interlock units, which prevent drivers from starting their car without taking a breathalyzer. Transportation companies were also on hand promoting their safe ride services. Organizers say the event reminds people to stay responsible year round. MADD Organizer Monica O'Brien says, "I just hope and pray that this is something that will open people's eyes and make them realize, ya know maybe if they see the news some night this week...then our work is done then we've saved somebody's life." According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving statistics last year alone, 13,000 people were killed by alcohol related crashes.
