(AP) -- Governor Jennifer Granholm says Michigan is going through tough times, but she expects them to improve down the road.  She says 2008 has been especially hard because of the domestic auto industry's troubles. She doesn't expect 2009 to be much better, but says the state will move forward if it keeps up its efforts to diversify its economy.  She told reporters Monday that, while the state has taken it on the chin, Michigan is tough and will "be all right."  She says her administration is working hard to bring new battery technology to the state and to create more jobs in the life sciences.  She says budget cuts may be needed in the year ahead, but she doesn't see a return to the budget gridlock of 2007.
