TRAVERSE CITY -- A $3 million grant is being issued to Acme Township to transform a mile long stretch of private waterfront property into a public beach and park. The grant will be issued by the Michigan Natural Resources trust fund to expand East Bayside Park. The money, combined with $1 million of community funding, will allow the township to buy several hotels and add almost four acres of property which will add 540 feet of shoreline. Planners hope to complete the project in 2011.
