Two students killed in car crash

A weekend car accident claimed the lives of two siblings from Central Lake Schools.
Police are blaming speed and alcohol for a weekend car accident that claimed the lives two student from Central Lake Schools.
The single vehicle crash happened Sunday night on Deer Lake Road just West of Boyne Falls in Charlevoix County. Investigators say 33-year-old Jeremy Berg lost control, went off the road and hit a tree causing the vehicle to turn onto the passenger side. Seven people in the car, two students from the Central Lake Schools, 12-year-old Skyler Keith Moore and 11-year-old Tasha Ann Moore were killed on impact with the tree. One other passenger was taken to Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey where she was treated and released. The others were checked on the scene by EMS. Multiple charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.
Counselors are on hand today at Central Lake schools to help students cope the loss of their classmates. Superintendent Steve Paliewicz says, "We are very supportive of all our students and staff during this difficult time - both today and into the long term. Our heart goes out to the family and the students' friends."
