Counselors are on hand to help students cope with the loss of a fellow classmate at a Traverse City Area School. School officials say that Traverse City West Middle School eighth grader Christina Brooks died in a weekend car accident in the Upper Peninsula.

Police haven't released many details, but we do know it happened just after three o'clock Sunday afternoon on I-75 just south of M-134 in Mackinac County's Saint Ignace Township

Traverse City West Middle School parents were sent an e-mail Monday about the student's death. Counselors will be on hand Tuesday and longer if needed for students.
