TRAVERSE CITY -- Goodwill Industries has announced that they have purchased the Ace Hardware property in Alpena.

The property is located at 1201 N. Bagley St. in Alpena.

Goodwill will begin renovating the 15,000 sq. ft. building as they prepare to open a retail and drive-thru donation drop off center. Timm Construction in Alpena will be the general contractor overseeing the project.

The new store and donation drop off center will employ approximately 20 people.

Goodwill Executive Director, Cecil McNally says they are "excited" to be coming to Alpena.

"The new location will provide residents in the surrounding area with a convenient location to donate new and gently used items at an affordable and exciting shopping opportunity," McNally said.

McNally went on to say Goodwill is exploring program and partnership opportunities in the area.

The Alpena location marks Goodwill's 6th retail branch in Northern Michigan.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2013.
