This tantalizing recipe will have you smelling "romantic" for days!
TRAVERSE CITY -- "I think garlic is very romantic," said Chef Phil Murray from Phil's on Front in Traverse City. "There's a lot of allure to it."
For all of you garlic lovers out there, Phil is cooking up some garlic to keep pesky bugs and people away. Ditch the insect repellent and pretty perfume and grab a garlic clove. This tantalizing recipe will have you smelling "romantic" for days!
"Summertime means lots of fun, lots of sun, lots of water, but also a lot of mosquitoes and bugs," said Phil. "So what I do is I don't go out and buy insect repellent, I make my own."
Phil is helping you create some of his favorite dishes in your own kitchen every week on UpNorthLive Tonight on ABC 29&8 at 6:30 p.m.
Phil bought some fresh, local, organic garlic and roasts it.
"Then I eat it... and I eat a lot of it," said Phil. "What happens is your body produces natural garlic toxins that gets out into your skin and repels the insects. It also repels people, so you've got to take your pick!"
Phil said to cut garlic pieces in halves and bake in "water bath" for a half hour (or until bulbs become soft).
"Garlic is a wave of now, so you feel better tomorrow," said Phil. "And the day after that!"
