Fire investigators in Kalkaska say a toaster may have caused Friday's fatal fire

While the official cause of the fire will be listed as undetermined, Chief Derek Hogerheide thinks a toaster that was sitting under kitchen cabinets malfunctioned and started the blaze

55 year-old Dan Harmon, who was disabled died was found laying next to his bed.

Family members were at the door trying to get the man out, but couldn't because of the fire and smoke.

"They tried to make entry, the neighbor across the street tried to make entry of the house, and non of them were successful, there was too much smoke and fire, mainly it's the smoke, you can't see through the smoke, and you can't breathe in that smoke. Everybody retreated, and we tried to do the same thing when we got here, and we were unsuccessful," says Kalkaska Township Fire Chief Derek Hogerheide.
