The potential exists for a severe weather outbreak across Northern Michigan this late afternoon/evening as the combination of very warm/humid conditions will interact with an upper level disturbance and strong cold front that will pass through this evening.
Thunderstorms are forecasted to initially develop over Wisconsin/Central Upper Michigan this afternoon ahead of the cold front. Those storms will race across Lake Michigan increasing in intensity arriving near/after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. While there is a risk for an isolated tornado and also large hail with these storms, the primary threat based on an analysis of the atmosphere appears to be widespread damaging winds. These storms will cross the state exiting into Lake Huron by 10 p.m. Tonight.
These storms could be dangerous, with damage possible. Residents and visitors alike to Northern Michigan need to keep a watchful eye on the weather forecast. The 7&4 Storm Team is also monitoring the situation closely and if any watches/warnings are issued, will relay that information to you immediately.
