Alpenfest is in full swing ... but it's not just people getting into the spirit of the festival ... pets are parading as well!

GAYLORD -- Another beautiful day here in downtown Gaylord for this year's Alpenfest. Folks are finding plenty of things to do...from the rides and concerts, but today it was all about the pets having fun.

It's was perhaps the hardest job for any judge this week…deciding out of all of these faces which ones was the ugliest?  For the ugly dog contest I don't think a top prize could have been given, but there were plenty of dogs doing whatever they could to catch the prize…a new bone.

But the real work came later as Alpenfest's queen led the procession of people and pets on a grand ol' parade. Many were dressed in their best as they marched down the street…there were plenty of dogs and cats, even a hamster and duck. Chelsea says: "it's my pet and it's a pet parade and I don't have a dog and I had one last year and it won third place and I brought Paris out to see if she would win and she did." Kimberly says..."the girls are both in gymnastics so they wanted to be olympic gymnasts and these two are track runners for the U.S. Track Team."..."it's the olympics year and the kids are really excited about watching the olympics supporting the U.S. team."

But for some of the dogs, like four year old Deputy Dog, he came to the parade hoping to find a new home. Angel says: "he has his adopt me sweater on so he's looking for a new home. We've had several people ask about him but this is a great opportunity if anybody is looking for this type of dog that hopefully he'll get a good home."

Deputy Dog there just one of the animals who came out from the Otsego County Animal Shelter.

For a lot of the folks coming out they are finding plenty to do here at Alpenfest, the events continue tonight with a concert at 8 o'clock from Eagles tribute band Hotel California before wrapping things up tomorrow.
