Soldier with northern Michigan ties hurt in Afghanistan

A Michigan State Police trooper, who is serving in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army Reserve, is recovering from injuries after an attack.

Sergeant First Class Platt Weinrick, 36, is in serious condition after losing his left eye.   He is being treated for his injuries in Germany.

Sgt. Weinrick is a 1994 graduate of Traverse City Central High School.    He is assigned to the Flint Post with the Michigan State Police and also serves with the 303rd Military Police Company.

According to ABC 12 in Flint, Sgt. Weinrick was giving first aid to fellow soldiers when he was hit.
