BOYNE CITY, MI -- In a time when jobs aren't a dime a dozen, there's hope tonight, and it starts with a company breaking ground and investing in a Charlevoix County community.

Precision Edge Surgical Products Company, based in Sault Ste. Marie, has picked Boyne City as the spot for expansion, and once the new building is done, it's going to put people back to work.

It’s been a while since the toss of dirt has led to such a promising economical impact in Boyne City.  A major investment, $5.8-million worth, will bring sorely needed jobs to the region.

"It’s a good area and I think there's enough employees in the general surrounding areas where we are going to be successful," said Precision Edge President John Truckey.

Precision Edge Surgical Products Company chose the Boyne City Industrial Park for their 35-thousand square foot expansion.

Work is expected to be complete by early next year, and 30 employees will be hired at the start.  Within five years, the hope is to employ 100 and have 200 employees long-term.

Boyne City Manager Mike Cain says this is a major win for the community and region.

“It shows the balanced approach we're trying to have in Boyne City, and in this economy, to try to do this, throwing that dirt out was just a great release, it was exciting," said Cain.

The staffing process has begun, and Milton Kniss has been brought on to be the manager.

“It's a fantastic situation, I’ve been on the other side, and it's no fun on the other side, this is a great day, it really is," said Kniss.

Trees were being cleared at the site where the specialty surgical supply company will go and promise came with every tree that toppled down.

“This is something that has the opportunity to really lift Boyne City and the entire region," said Cain.

And another thing to note: Peninsula Construction out of Traverse City is the general contractor of this project, and they say the only workers that will work this job will be from Michigan.
