TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Hundreds of people showed up at Thirlby Field to participate in the fifth annual Traverse City Downtown Turkey Trot for charity. Runners could participate in a 5K, 5 mile run or enjoy the festivities by walking. All proceeds collected by the event will go to local charities.
Volunteers got there hours before the runners to begin setting up and pass out shirts. Volunteer Jan Phillips arrived before the sun came up but says it was a great day to be outside and a good way to start Thanksgiving Day.
“Now we are going to exercise and then we can eat,” Phillips said. Canned good donations were accepted to support the Saint Francis Food Pantry as well as dog food and pet supplies to support H.A.N.D.D.S.
