NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- A day full of sunshine Monday boosted spirits across Northern Michigan, but it will be short lived as clouds and even some freezing drizzle are possible.

A big winter storm is taking aim Tuesday on the far southern reaches of the Great Lakes including Chicago where 6-8" of snow is forecasted through Tuesday night. The bulk of this storm will pass well south of Michigan into Indiana/Ohio with no direct impact on Northern Michigan. However, there will be smaller minor impacts as clouds will drift in off of Lake Huron on northeast winds lowering/thickening Tuesday.

The main concern locally Tuesday night/Wednesday morning would be for patchy areas of freezing drizzle. The signals are there for it, and if it does develop Tuesday night, it would be most likely in Northeast Lower Michigan and the inland higher elevated areas including Gaylord/Grayling/Mio perhaps. Temperatures Tuesday night will remain in the 20's, so any drizzle would freeze on contact. Certainly something to be aware of into Wednesday morning.

Sunshine will attempt to break through the clouds by Thursday with a mainly sunny day anticipated for Friday. High temperatures by the weekend will be back to around 40F. The next shot at any measurable rain/snow will be later Saturday into Sunday.
