TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a young boy.
Police say the 8-year-old was at the skate park at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center Thursday evening. When he walked across the street to an apartment on Fair Street he was followed by an unknown man. Police say he waited for the boy to enter the door code and followed him inside the lobby area.
Once inside the building the man inappropriately touched the young boy and exposed himself to the victim.
The suspect is described as a male subject around 25 years old, tan looking skin, shorter in height, short dark hair - spiked in the front, wearing a plain white t-shirt, khaki shorts, tennis shoes.
Traverse City Police officers are working with a forensic sketch artist, looking through surveillance video, and searching through the sex offender registry for a man that fits that description.
Captain Brian Heffner says, "Anybody that has been convicted of a similar crime, we're gong to be knocking on their door to find out their whereabouts last night."
