Police in standoff with suspected gunman in Ludington

LUDINGTON -- Wednesday 5:00 a.m. Update -  WOOD-TV is reporting that Ludington Police Sgt. David Maltbie is alert, in good spirits, in stable condition as he recovers at a Grand Rapids hospital.  Lowell Fetters, 64, is suspected of firing the shot at Maltbie.  After he was apprehended, he was treated for his injuries and booked in the Mason County jail Wednesday morning. He is expected to be arraigned soon.

9:15 p.m. Update - The standoff has ended. Police have taken the suspect safely into custody. WOOD-TV reports that the officer was responding to a domestic situation near the intersection of North Delia Street and Tinkham Avenue in Ludington when he was shot.

Oringinal report: Ludington Police officers, Mason County Sheriff's deputies and Michigan State Police troopers have surrounded a home in Ludington after a reported shooting.

Investigators say a police officer was shot and is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Now the suspect is holed up in a house. Neighbors say the home is on Delia Street and nearby Tinkham Avenue is shut down. You are advised to avoid this area.
