UPDATE AT 5:00 PM:

Several bands of powerful thunderstorms have moved across the Great Lakes states today.

We’re feeling the effect of a front in which cool air is undercutting the warm, moist air mass sitting on top of us for the past several days.

This front is capable of producing thunderstorms with hail, high wind, heavy rain, and lightning.

We’ve received numerous reports of hail, and the National Weather Service believed a tornado developed in rural Luce County.  The chance for storms falls after midnight as the front passes us.

POSTED 10:00 AM:

Following a day of rather extensive heat Tuesday, another round of warm to hot weather is forecasted for our Wednesday afternoon.

Thunderstorms blew up along what appeared to be an old outflow boundary from thunderstorms that happened last night. Reports of dime to penny size hail came into the 7&4 Weather Center from Charlevoix, Ellsworth, Northern Leelanau County and Gaylord.

While sporadic power outages were also reported in Emmet/Charlevoix counties, the only damage reported from Wednesday morning’s storms was from East Jordan in Charlevoix County where around 9:15 a.m., a tree fell onto the corner of a house in that city.

These storms will diminish by early Wednesday afternoon.

This evening into the overnight, a strong cold front will sweep in another round of thunderstorms, primarily along/south of highway M-32 with the possibility of additional severe weather this evening. Following that front, a lot cooler tomorrow, with highs only in the 60’s to near 70F degrees.
