GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- A 44-year-old Traverse City man has been charged with possessing child pornography after police were tipped off by an online computer technical support service.

According to Traverse City Police, an online computer repair site contacted them in reference to a Traverse City resident who had logged on for virus repair. The online technician said he began examining the computer for problems and noticed images of naked children ranging in age from 5 to 11.

The company immediately contacted Traverse City Police who arrested the man, James Christopher Knight at his home in the 500 block of West 10th street.

Officers seized computers, printed images and tapes. Also during the search, officers say they located and seized 84 grams of suspected marijuana.

Police say an investigation was conducted and warrants were issued for four counts of Possession of Child Sexually Abusive material. Each count is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000.

Knight was also charged with one count of possession of marijuana, which is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to one year and/or a $2,000 fine.

Police say it does not appear that any of the images were photographed by Knight himself. Police also say it doesn't appear that the photos depicted any Michigan residents.

Knight was arraigned today and is awaiting his preliminary exam.
