GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- The Special Olympics Michigan Winter Games are kicking off this week! 7&4's Holly Baker got some more information this morning on how you can volunteer at the events, help raise money for SOMI, or just support the athletes by being a fan in the stand.

Over 800 athletes and 500 volunteers work together to make the games a possibility. The time trials start Wednesday at several locations: The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Schuss Mountain at Shanty Creek Resort and Howe Ice Area at the Grand Traverse Civic Center.

Opening ceremonies for the games begin at 7:30 pm on Wednesday in the Governor's Hall at the Grand Traverse Resort.

There is never a charge for admission to a Special Olympics Michigan event. Any and all fans are welcome to cheer on athletes at their events.
