GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- Philanthropist, volunteer, wife and mother. Those are just a few of the words that describe Barbara Dennos.

Barbara passed away last night. She was 90 years old.

She was the wife of Michael Dennos, who passed away last year. They were married for 70 years.

Together, they assembled and dedicated the Barbara and Michael Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College.

Not one to take herself to seriously or flaunt her many accomplishments, Barbara identified herself as just a "baker's wife" for her 50th high school reunion biography.

Always an independent, driven woman, Barbara also volunteered at Interlochen, Pathfinder school, the Symphony, the Opera House, Michael's Place and the Father Fred Foundation.

A visitation will be held this Saturday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A private memorial service is planned.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dennos Museum or Michael's Place.
