MT. PLEASANT -- UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Eric Lee Ramsey has been identified as the suspect in the CMU abduction case who was shot and killed by State police.Police say the man involved in the abduction of a Central Michigan University student was shot and killed by a State Police Trooper in Crawford County early Thursday morning.

The female student was abducted by the man in the parking lot of the Student Activity Center around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The gunman forced the woman into her vehicle and left the Mt. Pleasant campus near South Mission and Blanchard Road.

"She felt a gun on her shoulder, saying scoot over," said Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski. "An unidentified stranger ended up driving her car and took her to a residence on South Crawford road, part of Isabella County, binding her hands with tape and ultimately sexually assualting her."

The woman jumped out of the car about four miles from the campus and ran to a nearby home for help.  She was reported safe with police around 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

"There is no doubt in my mind that he was going to use that gas on her, he even said I am going to take your life," said Mioduszewski.

At 1:45 a.m., police tell 7&4 News, State Police Troopers saw what they thought was an abandoned car at a Gaylord business.

As troopers were approaching the car, they said the driver, the same man wanted in abduction at CMU, rammed the police car and took off.

During the chase, State Police say the driver lost control of the car, went off the road and struck a fence. He then took off on foot.  7&4 News is told the suspect then stole a flat bed sanitation truck used to haul dumpsters.

The suspect was spotted again by a Crawford County Sheriff's officer and a another chase began.

State Police say during the second chase the suspect rammed two other State Police cars before being fatally shot by a trooper.

Police say the suspect's name is Eric Ramsey, 30, of Mount Pleasant.

"She's a hero," said CMU Police Chief William Yeagley. "Shes a strong individual who found herself in a horrible situation, made a very tough decision, engaged the individual in conversation, made some good decisions, and was very brave."
