TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Commissioners met last night to discuss plans to improve the harbor along West Bay.

Commissioners voted to allow improvements to Northwestern Michigan College's Harbor at its Great Lakes Campus.

The college's dredging permit was given the green light by City Commissioners.

The school and the city say the actual dedging process will be a learning opportunity that could benefit the bay.

City officials say this step will pay off it the coming years by creating more of an attractive beach, particularly in NMC's surrounding area.
