MONTMORENCY CO. -- The Montmorency County will be hiring five new road patrol officers within the sheriff's department.
The funds for the new hires are available after the voters approved a law enforcement millage in the August 2012 election.
In addition to the road patrol officers, another new officer has been hired to replace a member of the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team.
The new hires will allow for 24-hour, 7-day-per-week patrols for Montmorency County, which were not the case prior to the millage.
Each township within the county will also now have a township resource officer assigned to them. These officers will be keeping in constant contact with each township regarding current events and issues, and will also be present at each township meeting, the Sheriff's Office says.
Animal control will be full service once again starting on March 31. In the last year, Montmorency County deputies only responded to viscous or injured animal complaints due to lack of funding and personnel, but animal control will now take over.
Front desk service clerks will also be added to the county Sheriff's Office between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
