GRAYLING -- The Crawford County man accused of killing and decapitating a family's pet is out on bond.

An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Seven Stuart on two counts of killing and torturing an animal.   The Crawford County Sheriff reports that Stuart turned himself in to the jail Sunday morning.  Deputies were in contact with Stuart by phone and he drove back from Alabama to turn himself in.

Deputies were called to Wilcox Bridge Rd. and Jones Lake Rd. in Grayling Twp. last week on the animal cruelty case. Investigators were shown the body of the 6-year-old pit-bull named Smokey, with bullet wounds. The dog's head was cut off and not with the body.  The dog's head was located Tuesday morning near a stop sign at the intersection of Stephan Bridge Rd. and North Down River Rd.

Dan Kelley, the owner of the dog, said the man responsible for shooting and decapitating the dog is Kelley's adopted brother. The two had a falling out recently and Kelley was in the process of moving out of the house they shared. As he was moving, he left Smokey with his brother for a short time, which is when the incident took place.

Seven Stuart allegedly called Kelley by phone and left a message stating that he killed the dog and that he had the head taken to be processed for mounting to return to Kelley.

Killing and torturing an animal is a felony charge.  Each count could bring a maximum sentence of four years in prison.
