A low pressure system is located over the Nebraska/Kansas border - it's warm front is stretched out across Iowa and Missouri - and is causing our driving conditions to rapidly deteriorate. This system will move across Iowa tonight and cross the lower peninsula Monday. Behind it is a second low pressure that will pass north of the Great Lakes Tuesday, bringing an end to very mild weather as we get into the mid-week.

For tonight through Monday morning - if you do not have to be on the roads, stay at home! We have heavy snowfall moving through right now, and as the warm front ushers in more warm air, we'll see a switch-over to sleet and freezing rain, before finally turning to rain later Monday.

We have a winter weather advisory in effect for all of Northern Michigan...

Leelanau, Benzie, and Manistee counties - the advisory expires at 7am on Monday. Expect snow showers through your evening, with a switch to wintry mix and sleet as we head into the overnight. Many are looking at 2-4" in accumulation before we see the transition to freezing rain. Ice may accumulate to near a quarter of an inch.

Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Charlevoix, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena counties - the advisory expires at 1pm on Monday. Snow will continue overnight with 3-6" in accumulation, and possible ice accumulation around 1/10 of an inch. The areas most likely to see wintry mix, sleet, and freezing rain as we head into the early morning hours will be along and south of M-32. Expect mix, sleet, and freezing rain to continue throughout the entire morning.

Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Gladwin, and Arenac counties - the advisory expires at 1pm Monday. Snow showers will continue into the later evening hours with 3-5" in accumulation before transitioning to wintry mix, sleet, and freezing rain. Expect light freezing rain to continue throughout the morning, with possible ice accumulations near a quarter of an inch.

Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, and Isabella counties - the advisory expires at 1pm Monday. Seeing snow showers, producing 1-3" of accumulation, during the evening switch over to wintry mix, sleet and freezing rain later tonight. Expect sleet and freezing rain overnight with ice accumulations near a quarter of an inch possible.

Luce County - the advisory expires at 1pm Monday. Expect 3-6" of wet, heavy snow accumulation, which may be heavy at times overnight. As we enter Monday morning, the snow will begin to lighten and we may have some freezing drizzle.

Chippewa & Mackinac counties - the advisory expires at 5pm Monday. Expect snow to enter the E. U.P. after dinner-time - and accumulate to around 4-6" by Monday afternoon. May also have freezing drizzle at times during the day Monday as we hit the high temperatures.

Across Northern Michigan for your Sunday night through your Monday afternoon hours, expect very hazardous road conditions. The snow may be heavy at times, and periodic white-out conditions are possible, and have already been reported. The snow will be wet and heavy. As temperatures rise and ice accumulation becomes a possibility, expect icy roads. School delays or closings are also a possibility for Monday.
