NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- Hundreds of Michigan schools closed once again Wednesday morning as another sloppy winter storm skirts across the state.

While snow totals generally ranged from 3-8" across Central/Southern Michigan, parts of Northern Michigan also saw accumulating snow. The highest in our viewing area reported in as of Wednesday morning was in far northwest Mason County along the Lake Michigan shoreline where a half foot of snow fell. While the snow totals themselves are not all that impressive, with temperatures near or even slightly above freezing, it is a wet and as viewers described it, greasy type of snow leading to slippery roads and again, even some school closings.

For a change, Northern Michigan actually missed out on the highest snow totals which occurred just across Lake Michigan in Wisconsin due to an east wind crossing Lake Michigan. Spots there from Manitowoc south towards Milwaukee saw up to a foot of lake enhanced snowfall with this same system.

Skies remain gray through Thursday morning with off/on snowfall at times. Snow totals will generally be in the 1-4" range, highest around Manistee/Ludington and also near Lake Huron from Drummond Island to Alpena.

The weather does look to improve by Friday and more so into the weekend with sunshine returning although it will be colder. High temperatures Saturday will only top out in the low-20's as we head into March.
