NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- The Northwest Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross is opening several shelters in Northern Michigan to help those affected by the winter storm.
With thousands without power and freezing temperature outside, the Red Cross and community partners are opening up shelters in Benzie and Kalkaska Counties.
A warming center has also been set up in Grand Traverse County.
"We want everyone to have a safe, dry place to go and stay warm, as well as a hot meal and a warm cot." said Kevin Bavers, Executive Director of the Northwest Michigan Red Cross. "Our volunteers and local community partners have already swung into action."
