NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- After a brief respite in the weather, another round of snow will cross Northern Michigan along the decaying remains of a storm that slammed the Central Plains.

Over 17" of snow fell Thursday at Hays, Kansas with Kansas City, Missouri seeing around a foot of snow. In fact, it was enough to close the Kansas City International Airport until at least late Friday afternoon. Even Chicago got in on the action with 4-6" of snow there.

The area of low pressure responsible for the snowfall is weakening as it approaches our area, so snow amounts will not be all that significant. Still, we had a few reports of school closings Friday morning in Oceana County and reports of thundersnow downstate at Gun Lake and also at Irons in Lake County.

Snow will slowly grind its way northwards reaching the U.P. by early afternoon. Along with the occasional light snow will be the potential for drizzle and/or patchy freezing drizzle which will be the case Friday night into early Saturday. We start the weekend with a few snow showers and drizzle under a gray sky Saturday with highs near freezing. By Sunday, some peeks of sunshine with dry weather.

Looking longer range, high temperatures look to remain stable through next week in the low/mid-30's as we head towards March.
