TRAVERSE CITY -- It was a sea of green kicking off a community party for St. Patrick's Day in downtown  Traverse City Saturday.

The National Cherry Festival, which is hosting the event,  turned green for the second annual Leapin' Leprechaun 5K.  The unusually sunny weather and a Saturday St. Patrick's Day, is giving a boost to the downtown events.

"Last year was our first year and we had over 700 people attend.  This year, we had almost 1,100 people sign up for the race, so a lot of growth this year," explained Executive Director Trevor Tkach.

The fun continues all day downtown, with a community St. Patrick's Day parade starting at 1:30pm.
