KALKASKA -- Kalkaska's Kelli Guy has signed her letter of intent to play basketball at Michigan Tech next fall.

The Kalkaska senior, who compiled over 1,000 career points, two Record-Eagle "Dream Team" titles and a career assist record, signed her letter this morning.

"She likes everything about Michigan Tech," Kelli's mother, Susan said. "She loves the coaches and the whole program. It's a very special place."

Guy was also looking at Grand Valley State, Lake Superior State and Hope College, her mother says, but Michigan Tech stood out.

"The recruiting process can be very stressful and she was very happy to make an early final decision and she has never looked back," her mother says.

Susan Guy says she and her husband, Gary, are "so excited for her", especially after complications from a knee surgery two years ago threatened her career.

"I know there were days she never thought she might run again," Susan said. "Once she was able to play again, she was determined to make up for lost time."

While Kelli is blazing her own trails in the Huskies women's program, her family does have a legacy at Michigan Tech.

"Michigan Tech is where I went to school and my dad played basketball and ran track there, so she has a bit of a legacy," Susan Guy said.

Susan noted that one of the best parts of Kelli's decision is that it isn't completely about basketball.

"It's not only a great school, but one of the best Division 2 basketball programs in the country and I guess you can't ask for more than that."
