MONTAGUE TOWNSHIP, MI (AP) -- A West Michigan native is living his dream as a crewmember on an intercontinental sailing trip.
Muskegon native Peter Berdinka says he's always wanted to sail the world's oceans. After retiring from the B.C. Cobb power plant last July, he's doing just that.
Berdinka is a 55-year-old resident of Muskegon County's Montague Township and writes about what he calls his amazing adventure in a shipboard email to Mlive.com
He's a trainee on the crew of Barque Picton Castle, a three-masted sail training ship based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
There are 43 people aboard the ship, which passed through the Panama Canal on the way to the Galapagos Islands.
Berdinka says the adventure is an "amazing, fulfilling and educational experience."
