Big things come on little canvases
Exquisite miniatures by Wes and Rachelle Seigrist are now at the Dennos Museum Center and if you're not looking closely you may miss what's so big about these tiny paintings.
"We were offered this collection of miniature paintings by these two artists who specialize in miniature work. So what you'll see in the gallery are fifty examples of their work non of them more than about three inches square and some much smaller." Said Gene Jenneman Director of the Dennos Museum Center.
The husband and wife team mesmerize viewers with their mini works of art so exquisitely crafted that they are often mistaken for photographs.
"There is incredible detail in the work so it's really a magical show to come see just because the scale of the work and the incredible dexterity that it must take to create these pieces with the detail that is in them", added Jenneman.
Created under magnification and using the smallest of brushes these tiny paintings show viewers bigger isn't always better.
"A lot of these are watercolor pigment and to have the control to be able to put the detail in these paintings is really quite amazing", said Jenneman.
The Exquisite Miniatures exhibit will be going on now through December 30th at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City.
