Twin clydesdale fillies defied the odds
On April 25, 2007, a set of twin clydesdale horses was born in Grand Traverse County... At the Teahen Farm on the Old Mission Peninsula. Not only was the birth of the twin fillies exciting for the owners - it was also a rare event.
Another rare event - today's third birthday party for these horses. It's rare because Midge and Myrtle have defied the odds. The owners say twin births are unusual in the horse world - and often have tragic endings. Sometimes one or both of the twins will die, and sometimes the mother won't survive either. But in this case - all of them are doing well!
Sunday, the farm held a 3rd Birthday Party for the horses, and the community was welcome to attend.
The owners say the odds of the twins surviving to adulthood are roughly 10-thousand to one! The odds of having twin clydesdales are less than the chance you'll be struck by lightning ....twice.
