GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- Soon you'll be able to pay for metered parking in downtown Traverse City from your smart phone.

City commissioners approved the "Park Mobile App" on Tuesday, which was recommended by the Downtown Development Authority.

The current meters will stay the same, but a sticker will be out on them which will allow you to buy time on the meter using your cell phone. Users will be able to scan a code with a QR code reader, which will allow you to add time, check the status of your meter and will remind you when you're running out of time.

Officials hope to have the system up and running by late March.
