WEXFORD CO. -- Wexford County Commissioners will listen to a proposal from a Leelanau Dog Rescue facility tonight to take over management of the Wexford County Animal Shelter.

The animal shelter, which is currently run by the Sheriff's Department, has been riddled with allegations of improper euthanization.

That investigation has since been closed due to lack of evidence but the investigation is still open to look into other allegations.

Pine Cone Farm will make a presentation to the board about what they intend to do if the shelter is put into their hands.

Board officials tell 7&4 News that the cost for turning over the shelter to Pine Cone could be doubled compared to what it currently takes for the Sheriff's Department to run it.

Also on the agenda tonight is a discussion with an outside firm about whether commissions will sign for a study that would investigate the county's potential need for a new jail facility.

7&4's Meghan Morelli is at the meeting tonight and update with details when they become available.
