LANSING -- Gov. Rick Snyder recently signed legislation that would help veterans meet eligibility requirements for occupational licensing.

The three laws, sponsored by Rep. Ray Franz,  R-Onekama, will help veterans meet the requirements for state electrical, plumbing and security occupational licenses based on their military service experience.

"Michigan's veterans population is experiencing some of the highest unemployment numbers in the country so these steps are in the right direction," said Franz, who serves as the House Military and Veteran Affairs committee vice-chair.

"The legislation we passed last year removes some of the barriers for getting people back to work in the private sector," Franz said.
