TRAVERSE CITY -- Hundreds of althetes are now in Grand Traverse County for the Special Olympics of Michigan Winter Games. Organizers say they need your help to make sure the games go off without a hitch.

Mallorie Stiger from the Special Olympics of Michigan says the biggest help they need is in the cheering section. That's why they have started their "Fans in the Stands" program. Stiger says all you have to do is show up and root for everyone who is competing.

Stiger says they need the most help during the ice skating and speed skating events happening on Thursday at the Howe Ice Arena in Traverse City.

Other events going on this week are alpine skiing, cross county skiing, showboarding and snowshoeing. For a full list of events or for others ways to get involved, you can head to the Special Olympics of Michigan Website or call 800-644-6404.
