TRAVERSE CITY -- Community members gathered at a Traverse City chapel Sunday afternoon to celebrate it's new look with a special dedication ceremony.

The Carmelite Monastery on Silver Lake Road in Traverse city started renovation work on it's small chapel more than a year ago. Sunday, community members got a chance to see the changes that have been made so far. The chapel now has a new marble altar, several new shrines and special Latin inscriptions throughout the space.

Renowned church architect Duncan Stroik is organizing the remodel of the tiny chapel. He says the goal was to create classical ideas of beauty and harmony.

A small community of nuns live, work, and pray at the Carmelite Monastery but the chapel is open to visitors for daily masses and prayer. It was built in the 1960's.
