ELK RAPIDS -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is investigating the possible poisoning of seven turkeys in the Elk Rapids area.

A homeowner found the dead bird on his property in November.

Officials say that all seven showed no physical trauma and were normal weight for that time of the year. They appeared to be healthy.

Toxicology reports showed that the birds may have been poisoned by Zinc Phosphide, which is used for rodent control on farm crops.

It is unclear at this time whether this was intentional.
