CHEBOYGAN CO. -- A 40-year-old man was given a two year probation after he was charged with furnishing alcohol for minors.

Steven Robydek, of Cheboygan, was arrested after an investigation found he was frequently texting a 14-year-old girl and telling her he loved her.

Robydek, who was married at the time, admitted that he had become obsessed with the young girl and that he had discussed with her that they could be together when she got older.

He denied that anything sexual had taken place between them.

During the investigation, Robydek admitted to hosting parties for teenagers at his home, where he provided alcohol.

He was charged with five criminal charges stemming from providing alcohol to teens.

While the Cheboygan County Prosecuting Attorney's Office requested that the judge impose the maximum sentence, 90 days in jail. Judge Patricia Morse instead imposed no jail time, but did place Robydek on a two-year probation, during which his contact with time will be strictly limited.

Assistant Prosecutor Aaron J. Gauthier called the circumstances of this case "troubling."

"Not only did Mr. Robydek provide alcohol on several occasions to a number of minors, but he was beginning to establish a romantic-style relationship with a 14-year-old girl."

Gauthier added Robydek "cannot be trusted around minors."
