23-year-old accused of shaking baby pleads not guilty

A Cheboygan County man plead not guilty today to charges of child abuse.

State Police say 23-year-old Sean Bauers caused severe injuries to a one-year-old boy by shaking him.

Near the end of October, a sergeant with the Michigan State Police was dispatched to McLaren Northern Michigan's Cheboygan Campus for a complaint of suspected child abuse, according to a press release from the Cheboygan County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Hospital personnel brought the sergeant to a one-year-old boy who was suffering from severe bruising, bleeding of the brain and broken ribs, the release says. It was determined that the injuries were so severe that the boyshould be airlifted to Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Bauers' bond was reduced from $300,000 to $50,000 cash assurety.

His trial is set for February 12th.
